Inspired by describing a sense of humanity, these sculptures delve into the nature of community, the interplay between individual and the collective, intimacy and anonymity, and how each of these platforms of identity, influences our relationship with the diversity of environments in which we exist.

Having developed sophisticated modeling skills through the many years of working with clay in my ceramics practice, it was a natural progression into figure modeling. Easily adapted techniques allowed me to utilize figure modeling practices with confidence, creating a springboard into the realm of abstraction.

My entry into the world of sculptural form was through the discipline of ceramics in the late 1970s. An intimate relationship with earth and fire has been a great teacher, demanding discipline and innovation. I remain a disciple as both a reminder of my heritage and an ongoing source of inspiration.

I was loaned an SLR camera around the age of15. It had black and white film in it. From the moment the film was developed I was addicted to the enormous possibilities presented in the interpretation of light, shadow, form and texture.

From an early age I had my introduction to the wonder of drawing through the great drafting skills of my father, opening my eyes to the beauty of making images with marks on paper. It is of fundamental importance, requiring the deep study necessary for me to pursue art practice.
